ensure everyone can exit the building safely
Secondary lighting systems ensure everyone in a building can escape safely should the mains power be disrupted.
In emergency situations where the mains power is disrupted it is important to have emergency lighting in place to ensure everyone can exit the building safely. BS5266 requires that emergency lighting is installed to provide at least 3 hours of light. The British standard all our engineers work to also specify where luminaires should be sited and what level of illumination is required.
Additionally, safety signs and exit signs are required as detailed in the health and safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996.
We can provide a full range of emergency lighting and signs. We can also service existing lighting installations for the required 3 hours duration test to ensure they will be ready to work when they are most needed. If you require a quote or have any questions please get in touch or arrange a telephone call with a fire protection consultant.
Non-Maintained emergency lighting is designed to come on in the event of a power failure. It is linked to the buildings mains power system and senses when there is a failure and ensures emergency escape routes are light ensuring a means of escape from the building. This type of emergency lighting is commonly used in office spaces and factories.
Maintained emergency lighting is continuously lit but is also designed to work during a mains power failure. In the event the power goes down the luminaires switch to a battery backup. This type of emergency lighting is suitable for public places such as theatres, shopping malls and cinemas.
