Passive Fire Prevention

Intumescent products (passive fire products) protect openings in a buildings structure where services pass through, such as floors, walls & ceilings in order to maintain their structural integrity during a fire.

Passive fire prevention is the first line of defense when a fire starts. And it works without human interference, by sealing openings and stopping the fire from spreading across the building. It stops a fire from penetrating into structural openings. This limits the damage to property and gives people enough time to escape from a building and allows fire fighters to arrive.

Many tradesmen are not aware of the effects of breaching the fire barrier, perhaps to allow electrical wires or other services to pass through. Our engineers are trained to use passive fire products to safeguard the integrity of fire barriers whether they be floors, ceiling, roofs, walls or doors.

Other items in our range of passive fire protection are designed to protect structure. Steel work tends to lose its load bearing capability significantly during a fire and requires special treatment with paints and coatings in order to combat this.

Choosing the right product is essential. Our team of advisers can help you find the right product and ensure it is installed in accordance with the relevant standards and recommendations.
